KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ A Wyandotte County jury convicts a 17-year-old gang member of first-degree murder in the drive-by shooting death of a toddler inside her grandparents' home last year.
Daniel Perez Jr. will be sentenced April 24 for firing into a Kansas City, Kansas, home, killing Yelena Guzman. Two other suspects are charged, and one of them is still at large. A fourth, 16-year-old Luis Gonzalez, pleaded guilty and testified against Perez on Tuesday.
Gonzalez said he and the others belonged to a gang called Familia Loca, and that he and Perez had been ordered to target a rival gang member, the brother of the dead girl's father. Gonzalez testified that he was the driver of the car and Perez fired the shots.
