Jurors Ponder Sentence for Man Who Put Kids in Dryer

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) _ Jurors return to a Reno County courtroom
to consider a sentence for a man found guilty of putting his girlfriend's two small children in a hot clothes dryer.

Aron Pritchard of Hutchinson was convicted Friday of child abuse for the Nov. 28, 2006, incident. Pritchard claimed he was giving the children a ride in the dryer for fun, but prosecutors said Pritchard was punishing the boy for wetting his pants.

Pritchard had said he put the 3-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister into the dryer to show them they could have a good time without much money. An hour later, the dryer had become hot and the boy had second-degree burns.

Jurors meet Monday to decide a sentence for Pritchard.
