A Shawnee County jury Thursday convicted Bill Culbertson, 44, of Topeka of One Count of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy and Two Counts of Indecent Liberties Against a Child Under the Age of 14 Years.
The incidents involved an 8-year-old child and occurred over two months in 2006. Charges were filed by the defendant in October 2006.
The offenses include indecent sexual touching and oral sex as part of the molestation of the boy.
Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht said because of time and the trauma of the circumstances, it reached the point where the child was unable to testify.
Hecht says the criminal sodomy charge could get Culbertson nine to 41 years, with another five to 20 years on the other charges, depending on Culbertson's criminal history.
A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for March 27, 2007 at 11 a.m.
