Man Seen on Tape Near Slayings Contacts Cops

GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) _ A man seen on a 2002 videotape at a Great Bend bakery where two women were killed has contacted police.

But investigators say they're not close to an arrest.

Police in November released an enhanced image from the videotape, recorded at a nearby business on September 4th, 2002.

That's when 24-year-old employee Mandi Alexander and 79-year-old customer Mary A. Drake were found stabbed to death at the Dolly Madison Bakery.

Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said WednesThe man was reportedly close to the rday that the man in the video was located outside of Kansas and is cooperating with police.

Investigators wanted to talk with him because he was close to the scene and matched descriptions giving by a witness.

He is considered a "person of interest.''
