WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Haysville physician and his wife have been released from solitary confinement, after writing a letter about their treatment by guards at the Butler County jail.
Dr. Stephen Schneider and his nurse wife Linda Schneider are being held on charges that they illegally prescribed pain medication. They called family members Monday afternoon to let them know they were back with other prisoners.
A family member said the couple's phone and visitation privileges also were restored.
Their move out of isolation came after one of Linda Schneider's attorneys talked to U.S. Marshals.
The Schneiders face federal charges alleging that the couple is directly responsible for at least four drug overdose deaths of patients.
The Schneiders have vehemently proclaimed their innocence.
A hearing is set for Wednesday before a U.S. magistrate on a motion by the government to revoke the Schneiders' court-appointed legal counsel.
