Ft. Riley Stabbing Goes to Court Martial

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ A woman accused of fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend outside a Manhattan bar in October has been referred to a court-martial.

Fort Riley officials said Friday that a military judge will set a court date for Latoya Pitts, a 23-year-old specialist accused of stabbing 24-year-old Specialist Antonio Ortiz.

A total of 18 witnesses testified during the Article 32 hearing.

Police and Fort Riley officials say Ortiz and Pitts quarreled inside the bar, and that once outside the dispute became physical. Ortiz was stabbed in the stomach and was dead on arrival at a hospital.

In another Fort Riley case, Sgt. Castullo Salas was sentenced Wednesday to six months in military prison for the unintentional shooting death of a fellow soldier at a Junction City apartment.
