Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller says an easy way to reduce car crimes in Topeka is to remove packages that are in view in your car.
Car crimes account for over 30% of crimes in Topeka according to police. And removing things from plain view in your car can cause a potential criminal to either move on to another car or not perform a crime at all.
Police say to either keep packages out of your car or put them in the trunk out of view. Even an empty package could be a lure to a potential thief because they may think items of value are inside. While an empty seat will be no additional lure to a thief.
