A string of robberies in Topeka Thursday night ended in a foot chase down the 2400 block of Quincy Ct. and ended a crime stpree which included a burglary, three robberies, and a stolen car.
Daniel R Reid, 29, personal crime wave began when he burglarized a home in the 1300 block of SW 32nd sometime between 5:00 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to police reports.
Unbeknownst to the victim, Reid had nabbed a set of keys, among the other items he took. Later on that night, he returned for the car.
Then, starting around 7:00 p.m., Reid reportedly held up the first of what would prove to be three businesses when he robbed th McDonald's on 29th and California. Next, he went onto the Walgreen's a few flocks down at 29th and Gage and, finally, the Kwik Shop at 21st and Randolph.
When the officer, who, coincidentally, happened to be the same person who took the initial burglary report spotted the car matching the suspect's description, he realized that it was not the owner driving it.
When he tried to pull the suspect's car over, Reid allegedly took off, leading officers on a chase through the streets of Topeka that lasted several minutes. He then got out of the car in the 2400 block of Quincy Court and tried to run, but was eventually caught by pursuing officers and a police helicopter. Reports indicate that while being detained Reid tried to bite one of the officers.
In addition to the burglary, theft, and robbery charges, Reid is also charged with assault on an officer and felony eluding.
