Wichita Mom Charged in Daughter's Shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Wichita woman who allegedly waited an hour before taking her 7-year-old daughter to the hospital after she was accidentally shot is facing charges.

Twenty-four-year-old Aspen Jackson was charged with aggravated
child endangerment in the November 7th incident. Her 27-year-old
boyfriend Owen Nave was charged with possession of a firearm by a
felon. The two have a court appearance on December 10th.

Police believe the girl and her 2-year-old brother found Nave's 9 millimeter handgun in his apartment and were playing with it when it went off and a bullet struck her in the chest.

Jackson claimed when she took the girl to Wesley Medical Center that an unknown assailant had shot her as they were walking back from taking out the trash.

The girl has is out of the hospital and in state custody along with her brother and the couple's 3-month-old daughter.
