TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Just days away from health exchanges opening under the new Affordable Care Act, state and local officials want to be sure people understand how it could impact them.
The Shawnee County Health Agency held an information session Thursday night to answer questions about the new health care law.
Starting October 1, millions of uninsured Americans can start enrolling for coverage under the new state insurance exchanges. Health agency officials say they want people to understand their options.
"If (people) don't have insurance and they're interested in having insurance, it's very important to look online at the health marketplace website or else to call us and we'd be glad to help them with that," said Linda Ochs, a division manager with the Shawnee Co. Health Agency.
The Health Agency is offering another session October 8 at their office, 1615 SW 8th St.
The Kansas Insurance Commissioners office also is offering assistance through a special web site, www.insureKS.org.
