TOPEKA -- Safe Kids Shawnee County, sponsored by Community Action, Inc., will be conducting child safety seat inspections Tuesday, August 21, Dillon’s Store #37, 6829 SW 29th Street. At this event, to be held from 4:00 till 7:00pm, certified technicians instruct drivers on how to properly install child safety seats and boosters, and check installed seats to insure maximum safety for young riders.
Drivers need to bring their Car Seat Instructions and the Vehicle Owner’s Manual. This one-on-one education typically takes 20-30 minutes. Instruction and inspections are also done by appointment at Community Action's Swygart Center in Topeka. To set an appointment contact Beto Chabarria @ 235-9296.
From July 2007 through December 2011, Safe Kids Shawnee County has checked more than 3,212 child seat installations with approximately 80% requiring a re-install, while distributing over 2,101 at low or no cost to income eligible families.
