Plenty Of Competition At The Kansas Senior Olympics

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Seniors from across the nation shot out of the starting blocks to participate in the 2012 Kansas Senior Olympics today at Hummer Sports Park.

Saturday's track events featured athletes from around the country including Kansas and was open to anyone 50 years or older.

While the competition was thick in the track events, participants knew the real benefits outweighed winning and losing.

Bellvue, Nebraska native, had notched victory in his belt long before entering Saturday's race. He overcame prostate cancer and enjoys staying healthy. Jose said, "That drives me to try and maintain a healthy lifestyle because being active helps me with my nutrition and also keeping the body in shape."

The competitions take place through September 30th. Events also include horseshoes, shuffleboard and swimming, among others.
