(WIBW) - The Lyon County Health Department will open its doors on a Saturday to help people prepare for flu season.
The agency will hold a flu vaccination clinic from 8 am to noon, Nov. 20. The clinic will be at the health department, 420 West 15th. Ave., Emporia.
The clinic will also feature a reduced rate for the vaccines. Since it's on the 20th of the month, they decided to offer the vaccines on that day for $20, instead of the regular $25 rate.
The Health Agency will close Friday, Nov. 19, to prepare for the special clinic.
The Lyon County Health Department will accept insurance, Medicaid, Medicare and cash.
Health officials say getting the flu vaccine is expecially important ahead of the holiday season, when people will be traveling and in contact with a lot of other people.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of everyone six months and older being vaccinated to protect them against the flu, “Renee Hively, Director of Public Health said. “Last year, due to a very limited supply, we had to stagger the vaccinations. This year we were able to secure a considerable amount of influenza vaccine and we are ready to use them.”
The Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment reported this week that the first positive influenza cases of the season had turned up in Kansas.
