The publication factors in items including obesity rates, smoking habits, stress levels and access to parks and trails. Its sources include behavioral surveys from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index and the American College of Sports Medicine's Fitness Index. Active Times then uses a weighted algorithm to arrive at a composite score for each city.
Boulder, Colorado topped the list, followed by Provo-Oram, Utah.
Huntington, West Virginia was named the least fit city.
