TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - State health officials want to bring hospitals and public health entities together to improve the public's health.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment held a listening sessionTuesday evening in Topeka. Their focus was impacting population health.

Providers were invited to attend to hear stories of successful public - private partnerships. They also wanted attendees to brainstorm future initiatives for preventing illness and injury in communities.

KDHE Secretary Dr. Robert Moser said whether it is a hospital or a local health agency, they are all part of the public health system. He said, rather than going it alone in pursuing efforts to improve health in their communities, the goal of the sessions is to bring about partnerships to increase success.

Tuesday's was the last of six regional listening sessions scheduled. Others were held in Wichita, Chanute, Garden City, Salina and Colby.
