(WIBW) As much as we hate to admit it, our bodies change as we get older. Our eyesight might be a little different, our reaction time slows a step and muscles might not have the strength they once did.
AAA Kansas says those changes don't necessarily have to keep you off the road - so long as you acknowledge them and perhaps make adjustments to keep you safe when you get behind the wheel.
AAA's CarFit program aims to help with that. AAA, AARP, KDOT and Stormont-Vail's Healthwise 55 are teaming up to offer the program Tuesday, Sept. 24. It takes place from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the KDOT parking lot at SW 7th and Van Buren. The assessments are free, but an appointment is needed. Call 785-296-0845.
Complete news release from AAA Kansas:
Senior drivers are our most experienced and careful drivers. Unfortunately, age can also bring physical changes that make safe driving more challenging. Today’s cars don’t always “fit” the way vehicles did even a decade ago. That’s why AAA is pleased to be partnering with the KS Dept. of Transportation, Stormont Vail HealthWise 55 and AARP for a free educational event, called “CarFit,” on Sept. 24th, at the KDOT parking lot at 7th & Van Buren in Topeka, to help senior drivers “fit” better in the vehicle they drive for maximum comfort & safety. The CARFIT staff is trained specifically to address issues such as (these will be good screen bullets):
• Seat height adjustment
• Distance to the steering wheel
• Distance to the pedals
• Height of the head restraints
• Blind spots
• Vehicle controls operation
• Information on adaptive devices
CarFit technicians know all the little tricks to help make the fit between you and your vehicle “just right.” At the CarFit event you’re provided feedback about ways your vehicle might be better adjusted to fit your needs.
• Reservations ARE REQUIRED – and times and spaces ARE LIMITED, so call 296-0845 now to assure your place in CarFit!
