During the summer, blood donations tend to drop off as the need increases leaving supplies at a critically low level.
To help fight the problem, Shawnee County Farm Bureau teamed up with Community Blood Center for a "Red Day" on Tuesday.
In an effort to encourage people to stop by, those who donated received a free shirt and grilled lunch.
CBC staff said they hoped to get around 50 units of blood from the event. Supply is so low, the blood collected should be in area hospitals by Wednesday.
