(WIBW) - The Food and Drug Administration has a new warning about the drug Plavix.
The FDA says patients taking the anti-clotting drug Plavix should avoid using the stomach acid reducer Prilosec and Prilosec OTC. They say new data suggests that when patients take both Prilosec and Plavix, Plavix's anti clotting effect may be reduced by about half.
A member of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research says, when used properly, both the drugs provide significant benefits. But patients who use Plavix will not get the full effect of medicine if they are also taking Prilosec.
