People Roll Up Sleeves For Flu Shots

Topeka (WIBW) - All the hype over the upcoming flu season has more people rolling up their sleeve to get protected.

The Shawnee County Health Agency held its latest flu shot clinic Thursday at Seaman High School.

Right now, only seasonal influenza vaccinations are available. H1N1 vaccines are expected in mid-October.

Health Agency workers say many people tell them they're getting the flu shot for the first time this year.

Misty Kruger, community relations specialist, says that's a good thing. She says getting more people vaccinated will help prevent the spread of the flu.

She says a plan for distributing the H1N1 vaccine will be announced once it arrives. She says people will need to get a separate shot for it. She says the H1N1 vaccine will not protect against the seasonal flu, just as the seasonal flu shot will not protect against H1N1.

Upcoming Shawnee Co. Health Agency Seasonal Flu Shot Clinics:

Friday, Sept. 25 - 10 am to 2 pm, Shawnee Co. Courthouse

Tuesday, Sept. 29 - 1 to 7 pm, Highland Park High School

Thursday, Oct. 1 - 9 am to 3 pm, Velma Paris Community Center

Tuesday, Oct. 6th - 1 to 7 pm, Silver Lake Elementary School
