Topeka (WIBW) - Concussions will be the focus of a special program this week in Topeka.
St. Francis Sports Medicine says the title of this week's "Wellness Wednesday" session is “If in doubt, sit it out: dealing with concussions.”
The program will take place at 6:30 pm Wednesday, Sept. 16, at St. Francis Sports Medicine Center, 801 SW Fairlawn Road in Topeka. Doors will open at 6 pm and the presentation will last about an hour.
Dr. David Edwards, an internal and sports medicine physician at St. Francis Health Center, will present the program. It is free to attend.
Session highlights include:
Concussion as a form of traumatic brain injury
Risk factors for brain injury in sports
Signs, symptoms and long-term effects of concussion
Guidelines for returning to sports
