OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio - Comedian and activist Bill Cosby says problems in the black community are like dirty laundry that need to be washed, not ignored.

The 70-year-old author and actor told crowds at a community college and a mostly black church in suburban Cleveland on Wednesday that it's time to address head-on problems such as teen pregnancy, crime and school dropout rates among blacks.

Cosby is sometimes criticized for drawing attention to problems in the black community. But his tough love message also is embraced by supporters.

The Rev. Marvin McMickle said people who attended Cosby's lecture only to see a celebrity were missing the point. He calls Cosby a celebrity who challenges people to look at themselves.

I agree with Mr. Cosby 100% I think that we as black people need to change our outlook on life within our community and in our surrounding area. I think that we're to relax with the way that we raise our children and the things that we allow them to do. I also think that we should lead our children and community by example. How can we expect so much from them when we ourselves don't do the right thing. I'm a singel mother with 3 children by 3 different men. I know that I made mistakes in my past and I'm the first to except respondsibilty for that. I also know my future and my children future depends on what I do today. How I raise them and what I teach them today will effect what they do tomorrow. I try to lead my children by example. I'm not perfect and I express that to them all the time. I tell them we all make mistakes. I try to get them to realize that the big thing is to learn from your mistakes. Dont make the same mistake over and over. Be proud of yourself, respect yourself ect
