Holton (WIBW) - There's plenty of disturbing news to go around in this troubling economy. Not only are people's bank accounts hurting, authorities say so are family relationships.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says one of the biggest increases the department is experiencing in the past year is domestic violence calls.
Chief Detective Al Dunn says that when the economy is bad, domestic problems tend to rise. He says problems only get worse during the holidays when stress levels increase.
Dunn says couple's should find a financial adviser and try to budget their finances.
Another spiking crime category is mailbox thefts. Dunn recommends having checks sent to the bank instead of a home address. He also suggests mailing bills from the post office, rather than a home mailbox.
