PORTIS, Kan. (AP) _ A Salina man has been given the "Hard 50'' prison sentence for killing a north-central Kansas farmer with his own gun.

Kenneth Eugene Wilson, 45, was convicted last month of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, burglary of a residence and criminal possession of a firearm in the March 2008 slaying of 55-year-old Jeffrey Scott Noel at his home near Portis.

In addition to the Hard 50, which is the state's stiffest sentence short of capital punishment for murder, Wilson was sentenced to nearly 13 years more for the other crimes. The sentences are to run consecutively.

Attorney General Steve Six prosecuted the case. His office says it's the first time in 34 years a sitting Kansas AG has done so.
