More than 50 men turned out Tuesday night to voice their commitment to ending violence in the Topeka community.

El Shaddai Church of God in Christ hosted the open dialogue and prayer meeting. It was in response to three recent unsolved murders in less than three months. Michael Holley, David Wakes and Farell Sanders were all shot and killed.

Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller was among those attending the meeting. He says people need to work with kids and be involved in the community to take preventative measures.

Former Topeka City Councilman John Nave was involved in organizing the meeting. He says those attending Tuesday night's meeting decided to make a commitment to organizations already set up that mentor elementary and middle school children. At their next meeting, they'll brainstorm ideas as to which organizations will be a resource to them to reach young people. Also, each man attending committed to bringing five men with them to the next meeting.

The next meeting will be held in a week to ten days. A date is not yet set.
