Topeka Police are investigating a shooting at 29th and Michigan Sunday afternoon. 25 year-old David Wakes was driving southbound on Michigan when shots were fired at him.

Topeka Police are asking for your help in solving this crime. They say it appears Wakes was fired at from another vehicle.

One witness who refused to give his name said he was doing laundry when he heard four gunshots. Topeka Police have not confirmed how many shots were fired.

Officers were called to the scene about 3:00 Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival police say they found the Wakes still in his vehicle. One witness who refused to give her name said she walked up to the car to try to help the bleeding man but the doors were locked.

American Medical Response arrived at the scene and tried to resuscitate the man but they were not successful. Several people gathered around the scene. Some of them were friends and family. Police say two chaplains came to the scene to help comfort those who knew the man.

The Coronor's office arrived and white sheets were set up as the body was removed from the scene. Police say they have no suspects at this time. If anyone has information they are asked to call CrimeStoppers at (785) 234-0007. Remember you can remain anonymous.
