LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ A Lawrence man faces a maximum of two years in jail for the September 2006 fatal hit-and-run of a University of Kansas student.

A jury Monday found Josh Walton guilty of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Walton had been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatality accident.

Ryan Kanost was crossing the street when he was hit by Walton. The 22-year-old Kanost was found dead nearly 50 yards away.

Walton turned himself into police the next day. Sentencing is set for March 24th.

This man(?) took the life of another, and only got 2 years?? Is this JUSTICE? Ryan, a young man 22 years of age, had his whole life ahead of him. Only to have his life shortened by an idiot who just had to have a drink and go driving around. Ryan(R.I.P.), will not be coming home anymore, but this "JOSH" will be out in 2 years and (more than likely) will be out drinking and driving again. This is our justice system at work, I say "HA", what a joke!! In cases like this I feel the punishment should be; Take the age of the "victim(s)" and times it/them by at least 3 or 4. No chance for early release or parole. Make it a felony for them to have ANY alcohol in their possession or their home. Ban them for life from driving and prohibit them from owning ANY vehicle, except maybe a bicycle. Only 2 years, what the hell kind of a judge would do such a thing???
