TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Washburn women's basketball team is moving on to Kansas City after beating Southwest Baptist 80-70 in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament on Monday night at Lee Arena.
The win snaps a four-year drought of not advancing past the first round for the Ichabods.
Washburn, the 7-seed, trailed by five at halftime but opened the second half on a 16-4 run.
Axelle Bernard scored a career-high 21 points (10-for-14) in the win.
Alexis McAfee recorded a double-double for the Ichabods, scoring 20 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Washburn will face 2-seed Pittsburg State on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium.
