KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) -- The Kansas City Chiefs have traded quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, according to the Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor.

Paylor reported the deal won't go into place until March 14th and there is no word on who or what the Chiefs will get back.

Smith threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2017 for the Chiefs.

The deal would hand over the reins to Patrick Mahomes who was drafted by the Chiefs with the 10th overall pick in 2017.
