TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Hayden High School announced the hiring of Torrey Head as the new boys basketball coach on Wednesday.

Head was a former long time assistant on Bob Chipman's Washburn men's basketball staff. While Head was at Washburn the Ichabods won a NAIA Championship as well as five MIAA Championships, and they had five NCAA tournament appearances.

"We are excited to have Coach Head lead our boys basketball program," said Hayden principal James Sandstrom in a statement. "He has been a part of the Hayden community as a student, assistant coach, and parent. He is familiar with the mission of our school and we are looking forward to his program contributing to the tradition of excellence on and off the basketball court."

Head takes over a very talented Wildcat hoops team, they went 18-7 last season and finished third in Class 4A Division II.

"I am looking forward to working with Coach Head," said Hayden Athletic Director Bobby Taul. "He has been around Hayden athletics basically his whole life and knows what Hayden is all about. He will continue the Hayden tradition."
