Eric Hosmer to sign with Padres, according to reports

SAN DIEGO -- Eric Hosmer, one of the franchise cornerstone's that powered the Kansas City Royals to a World Series title, is heading to San Diego.

Hosmer signed an 8-year deal with the Padres, according to multiple reports.

Hosmer's deal will pay him $144 million if he stays all eight years, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Hosmer will make $105 million in the first five years.

In seven season with the Royals, Hosmer hit .284 with 127 home runs and 566 RBI. Known for his defense, Hosmer also won four Gold Glove awards, three in a row from 2013-2015.

Hosmer's biggest moment with the Royals came in the 9th inning of Game 5 in the 2015 World Series when he raced from third to score the game-tying run.
