EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Emporia State baseball coach Bob Fornelli has stepped down to accept the head coaching job at PIttsburg State, pending contract approval.

Fornelli has coached the Hornets for 15 seasons and has a record of 599-266. He has been a head coach for 22 seasons and has an overall record of 905-379.

"I'd like to thank Emporia State University for 15 great years," Fornelli said. "The Athletic Department at ESU has meant the world to me. I know they will get the right person in here to continue the Hornet tradition."

This year, Fornelli led the Hornets to a 34-24 record and an at-large birth in the NCAA Tournament. It was the 13th time in 15 years that the Hornets have reached the tournament under Fornelli (fifth straight year).

"For all the past, present and future E-State baseball players, continue to be the mighty Hornets," Fornelli said.
