ESU Baseball adds 13 to 2019 recruiting class

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Emporia State baseball has added 13 new hornets to new head coach Seth Wheeler's 2019 recruiting class, including ten transfers and three high school players.

"We are excited about this recruiting class. These are guys that we targeted early in the recruiting process, and they fit the Emporia State mold," said Wheeler in a press release. "They will be great additions on the field, but they are also high character guys that will be great additions to the University, the community, and our clubhouse."

Eight of ESU's new recruits are from Kansas.

Information on each recruit per Emporia State's press release:

Daniel Bachura is a left handed pitcher from Wilsey, Kan. that will transfer to Emporia State from Cloud CC. He appeared in 25 games in two years for the T-Birds with two saves. He had a 3.68 ERA as a freshman in 2017. He was a first-team All-Flint Hills League performer for Council Grove HS. He recorded a 2.40 ERA with 56 strikeouts as a senior. His brother Grant was a pitcher for the Hornets NCAA Tournament teams in 2015-16.

Tyrus Barclay is a catcher from Wyoming, Ontario and is transferring to Emporia State from Garden City CC. He hit .310 in his two seasons with the Broncbusters with a .433 on base percentage and threw out 30 runners attempting to steal. He had 12 doubles and 36 RBI as a sophomore.

Aaron Dees is an outfielder from New Strawn, Kan. and will be a senior for Emporia State after transferring from NCAA Division I Texas-Rio Grand Valley. He played in 34 games with 23 starts as a junior at UTRGV this past season. He earned first-team All-Region VI and All-Jayhawk Conference honors at Neosho CC. In 60 games as a sophomore he hit .342 with 16 home runs, 13 doubles, one triple, 69 RBI and 56 runs scored. He was a first-team All-State first baseman for Burlington HS as a senior.

Jack Duke is an outfielder from Overland Park, Kan. and will transfer to Emporia State from Cowley CC. He played in 48 games over two years for the Tigers with 34 starts. He had a .404 on base percentage as a freshman and was selected to play in the Jayhawk All-Star game. He was named a first-team All-State first baseman in Class 6A for Blue Valley Northwest HS as a senior.

Brett Huelsmann is an outfielder from Goddard, Kan. and transfers to Emporia State after helping lead Barton CC to their first appearance in the NJCAA World Series. He his .319 with four triples iand 22 RBI in 37 games as a sophomore for the Cougars. He hit .397 as a senior for Goddard Eisenhower HS and was a first-team All-State pick at second base.

Brigham Mooney is a middle infielder from Blue Springs, Mo. that will transfer to Emporia State from Kansas City, Kan. CC. He hit .298 with five triples, four home runs, 44 RBI and 48 runs scored in 58 games as a sophomore for the Blue Devils. He was a Rawlings-Perfect Game All-Central Region honorable mention selection at Blue Springs South HS.

Drew Repp is a right handed pitcher from Topeka, Kan. and is transferring to Emporia State from Barton CC after helping the Cougars to the NJCAA World Series. He was 6-3 with 43 strikeouts in 16 games with 13 starts as a sophomore. He tossed a complete game, four hit shutout in the Region VI Tournament to earn a spot in the tournament championship game. He was a second-team All-Centennial League pick for Shawnee Heights HS as a senior and helped lead the T-Birds to the Centennial League title and a Class 5A state runner-up finish.

Christian Roduner is a utility player from Rossville, Kan. and transfers to Emporia State from Colby CC. He hit .303 in 90 games with the Trojans over two years. He hit .320 with a 11 doubles, six home runs, 46 runs, 37 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 52 and earned first-team All-Jayhawk Conference honors as a freshman at Colby. He hit .275 with a .433 on base percentage in 38 games as a sophomore. He hit .357 with a .452 on base percentage and stole 12 of 13 bases in 20 games for Rossville HS as a senior.

Treston Rook is a left handed pitcher from Olathe, Kan. that will transfer to Emporia State from Ft. Scott CC. He went 8-2 in 12 starts for the Greyhounds and had 9.37 strike outs per nine innings. He is a 2016 graduate of Olathe Northwest HS

Jarrett Seaton is a left handed pither from Omaha, Neb. that is transferring to Emporia State after being a part of Barton CC first trip to the NJCAA Division I World Series last season. He was 12-5 with a 4.24 ERA in two seasons with the Cougars. He was named the Jayhawk West Division Pitcher of the Year as a freshman after going 10-2 with a 4.46 ERA, 58 strike outs and only 23 walks in 13 starts. He was 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA in six games as a sophomore. He had a complete game win for Millard West HS in the Nebraska state tournament on the way to a runner-up finish.

Kade Graff is a middle infielder from Ennis, Texas. He was a two-time first-team All-District shortstop and hit .358 in district games as a senior for Ennis HS.

River Lee is a right handed pitcher/middle infielder from Grandview, Mo. He is a two-time winner of the Jackson County Advocate Cy Young Award for Grandview HS. He had a 0.37 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 19.0 innings as a senior.

Sawyer Slayden is an infielder from Emporia, Kan. He hit .400 with five doubles, six triples, 25 runs and 20 RBI for Emporia HS as a senior. He was named second-team All-State as a utility player.
