WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH/AP) — After an employee of a Wichita convenience store was stabbed Wednesday night, his fellow workers and customers made sure the suspect would not get away.
According to the Wichita Police Dept., the 24-year-old employee told police the suspect had thrown a drink at him and during a confrontation, the clerk suffered minor stab wounds. But, the suspect wasn’t going anywhere after that.
The suspect and other employees blocked the exit to keep him from escaping, police said.
"When officers arrived, the suspect was actually barricaded on the inside of the convenience store by employees," says Sergeant Jeremy Vogel.
The 26-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Kansas Department of Corrections records show the suspect has a lengthy criminal record and has been in and out of prison from November of 2015 until February of this year.
Officers said the victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay.
