Washburn volunteers make blankets for pediatric Stormont Vail patients

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Local college students came together Wednesday to make sure pediatrics patients are keeping warm during the winter months.

The Washburn University Panhellenic community teamed up with the Stormont Vail Foundation to make "no sew" fleece blankets for babies born at the hospital. Stormont Vail says the blankets are often requested, because they provide comfort to the new parents.

The Washburn students say they have a lot of fun helping out.

"These are just reminders of how strong they are, how inspiring they are and how important they are and how to make it not seem so miserable just because being in the hospital all the time, with the same blanket, it's not very kid friendly," Alexandria Andrade, a Washburn student, said. "So this is just a way to liven it up and make it more homey."

The students also wrote notes with words of encouragement for the new parents.
