Wamego firefighter succumbs to injuries suffered on duty

WAMEGO, Kan. (WIBW) - A Wamego firefighter passed away Tuesday from injuries he suffered after a fire a day earlier.

In a news release, Wamego Fire Dept. officials said John Randle worked a structure call that came in a little before 5 a.m. Monday They say Randle suffered a fall while "returning fire apparatus to service."

Randle was airlifted from Wamego Health Center to Stormont Vail in Topeka. He passed away from his injuries Tuesday.

Area agencies were reacting to the loss Tuesday night. The Westmoreland Township Fire Dept. posted on Facebook, "It is a loss felt by all of us, for his fire brothers, his friends and his family. As always we are here if you need us. Rest easy brother, we've got it from here."
