Vietnam veterans reflect on their legacy from the war

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- Veterans gathered Tuesday to reflect on their experiences in Vietnam.

Taps played at a Vietnam War Commemoration Ceremony Tuesday at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center. President Obama declared March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day.

Organizers say it’s a way to reflect on their legacy.

“It’s just a day to remember everybody that has sacrificed,” said Ronald Zink, state council president, Vietnam Veterans of America. “As the cliché goes, freedom isn’t free, that there are men and women that stand up and honor this country by serving in the military.”

Zink says no matter how big or small the conflict, a veteran should be checked out for post-traumatic stress disorder.
