TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A special group of zoo volunteers earned their stripes.
The latest class of docents wrapped up their week-long training academy Friday.
The docents are volunteers who receive specialized, in-depth training which makes them uniquely qualified to give zoo guests interpretive and hands-on experience around the zoo. Once trained, they might operate discovery stations or lead other education activities, as well as give guided tours and talks.
The program had been abandoned for several years, but recently was brought back.
