The jury duty scam's back in Shawnee Co.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The jury duty scam is making its way through Shawnee Co.

Sheriff Herman Jones says his office has received reports from people who said they were told they missed jury duty and either owed fines or had warrants issued for their arrest.

They were told by the caller to buy a MoneyPak card, provide numbers on the card to the caller, and then the caller would meet them at the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office.

If you feel you've been a victim of this - or any other - scam, you are asked to call the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office at 785-251-2200.

The Sheriff's Office is also reminding people that a law enforcement officer or Jury Coordinator would never contact someone who failed to appear and request money for any jury related issue. If someone missed jury duty, the Jury Coordinator would first send them a post card asking them to contact the Jury Coordinator's Office.

If you'd like to verify your jury status, you can do so by visiting the Shawnee Court website and following the Jury Duty Information link.
