WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — A Spirit AeroSystems expansion plan is expected to bring more than 1,000 jobs to the Wichita-area.

The company's CEO Tom Gentile announced the expansion Tuesday morning as well as new $1 billion capital investment. Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer was on hand for the announcement.

The plan involves adding a new building to the Spirit campus. The company expects the new structure will take ten months to build and equip.

The company says most of the new jobs would be the production fields, warehousing, machining, engineering, and quality inspectors.

About 800 jobs are expected to be added next year, while 200 more people will be hired in 2019.

Spirit will also expand their Kinston plant. The company will invest over $55.7 million dollars at the Global TransPark over the next five years. The company currently has two facilities at the park.
