Shoplifter tries to punch, pulls knife on Target employee

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A shoplifter pulled a knife on a Target employee Sunday.

It happened at the Target located at 2120 SW Wanamaker just after 11:00 a.m.

According to Topeka Police, a loss prevention employee attempted to stop the suspect in the store. The suspect attempted to punch and pulled a knife on the employee so, they backed off.

The suspect began to run north bound from the store with the items he had stolen.

TPD say a witness kept an eye on the suspect until officers arrived on scene. When he saw the officers, he ran again and was taken into custody after a short chase.

Casey J. St. John, 29, was booked into the Department of Corrections on Aggravated Robbery and Felony Obstruction.

The Target employee was not injured during the encounter.
