(WIBW) - Severe storms that rolled across northeast Kansas Monday night dropped heavy rain and hail, and also left hundreds of people in the dark.
Westar Energy told 13 NEWS lightning is blamed for an outage in a central area of Topeka. It was centered along Macvicar Ave., between SW 15th and Kanza Park. The outage was reported just before 8:30pm and affected about 1700 customers. Westar's web site showed power was restored to most of them by 10 p.m.
Another outage affected more than 140 customers in the Maple Hill area. It hit around 8 pm Monday with power not expected back until 1 am.
An outage in the Gridley area in Coffey Co. left more than 300 customers in the dark for a couple hours Monday night. Westar showed they were back on just after 10 pm.
An outage around Yates Center in Woodson Co. was affecting more than 1200 customers late Monday. Westar's web site indicated it was related to lines down in the area. Crews were evaluating the situation, with no restoration estimate available.
