TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Senator Pat Roberts says he's happy to see Topeka is helping save the lives of veterans around the nation.

Roberts toured the new Veteran's Crisis Line Call Center Friday, which is located on the Topeka VA Health Center Campus. It's the 3rd of its type in the nation, and handles calls from veterans who are contemplating suicide or harming themselves.

Roberts said he's proud of Topeka and excited for the program to grow.

The senator also discussed Governor Sam Brownback's nomination for an Ambassador to Religious Freedom position.

"The committee will approve our governor," he said. "Sam was just back in Washington here yesterday and the day before talking to the President about prison reform, and talking to him and talking to some people that may have some concerns. I think we're going to get him a vote and I hope that happens very quickly."

The White House re-nominated Gov. Brownback, but it's not clear when senators might vote.
