TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — The man who tried to kill a corrections officer while being held at the Shawnee Co. correctional facility last April has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

The Shawnee Co. District Attorney's Office says Allen Thomas Schroeder, Jr., pleaded guilty to 2nd degree attempted murder and conspiracy to commit 2nd degree attempted murder.

As part of the agreement, prosecutors will recommend a sentence of 25 years, to be served after his current 16 month sentence for an unrelated attempted aggravated battery case, Shawnee Co. DA Mike Kagay said. Schroeder's sentencing is set for 9 a.m. on March 7.

Authorities said Schroeder stabbed Ofc. Lacy Noll with a makeshift weapon, which was described as a straightened door handle in the criminal complaint. Noll has since recovered.
