KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) — A key piece of the Kansas City Royals' 2015 World Championship run is reportedly coming back to Missouri. Unfortunately, he's heading to the other side of the state.
MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi says a source told him Greg Holland is close to a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Redbirds' front office has not confirmed the deal, however.
Pitching for the Rockies last season, Holland won the Comeback Player of the Year award last season.
Before taking the hill in Colorado this spring, the last time Greg Holland threw a pitch, the Royals were marching toward their first World Series championship in 30 years. Injuries prevented him from pitching that October and he spent all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Holland left the Royals after being granted free agency following the 2015 season.
As the Rockies' closer, Holland came roaring back, racking up 41 saves last season to help the team make it to the post-season for the first time since 2009.
