TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The first night of Hanukkah happens to fall on Christmas Eve this year.
This has only happened three times since 1900. The fourth will be Saturday, Dec. 24.
On the lunar-based Jewish calendar, Hanukkah begins on the same night every year: the 25th day of the month of Kislev.
However, the Jewish Calendar does not line up with the secular, solar-based Gregorian calendar.
Because of this difference in the two calendars, the first night of Hanukkah fluctuates between Nov. 27 and Dec. 26.
