LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW)- The Lawrence Police Dept. has released the name of the man shot and killed during an overnight confrontation on a home's front porch.
Investigators say the owners of the home, in the 1900 block of Connecticut Street, awoke around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to the sounds of someone on their porch. The man who lived there grabbed a gun and went outside where he found Trevor J. Mohawk.
Police say Mohawk, 32, and the homeowner started fighting and, in the course of the struggle, Mohawk was shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds.
Authorities say the homeowner also received injuries consistent with a violent confrontation. He was treated at the hospital and released.
Police say the homeowner and Mohawk did not know each other.
Police say no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. The homeowner has been questioned. Police will forward their investigation reports to the District Attorney, who will determine whether any charges will be filed.
A spokesperson for LPD would not say if investigators believed the shooting was a case of self-defense, saying that would be up to the DA.
