Off-duty officers subdue suspected shoplifter after altercation.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — A suspected shoplifter was taken to the hospital after an altercation Tuesday afternoon with two off-duty police officers at the East Topeka Walmart.

According to the Topeka Police Dept., the officers were working security at the Supercenter when the suspect, whose name has not been released, attempted to steal a substantial amount of items, possibly $100-$200 worth.

They tried to stop the suspect, resulting in a violent confrontation during which the suspect was Tased. After he was subdued, the suspect was taken to the hospital for examination.

The officers managed to escape the melee with "scrapes and scratches" and headed straight to the Law Enforcement Center to fill out their paperwork," TPD' Sgt. James Moore said.
