TOPEKA (WIBW)- The Shawnee Co. Coroner's Office released the name of the 49-year-old man killed early Tuesday morning in an overnight house fire.

Officials say Ronald Dean Bass' body was found inside the home after firefighters were able to get the the blaze put out. Flames had already consumed the house, in the 500 block of NE Strait Ave., when they arrived shortly after midnight Tuesday morning.

Firefighters got it under control quickly, but the contents of the home posed a challenge to fire crews.

Authorities say ammunition stored inside was reportedly going off when they got on scene. They also said the home was difficult to navigate inside due to clutter.

The preliminary investigation indicated the fire was accidental and was "more likely than not associated with inattentive cooking." They estimated the blaze did around $50,000 in damage to the home and another $25,000 to its contents.
