TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - More than 20 Payless ShoeSource IT positions in Topeka will be eliminated in the next two months.

A spokesperson for Payless told 13 NEWS the shoe company is partnering with Cognizant, a corporation that provides business and technology services and consulting. They said this partnership will help the company focus on its core strategy and develop solutions for technology innovation for the future. Payless says the relationship will help them adapt more quickly to new technology needs and deliver cost savings through new tools, automation and processes.

The spokesperson told 13 NEWS as part of the new agreement, more than 80 Payless associates in Topeka will receive offers to join Cognizant as employees, but says as part of the transition as to save money, about 20 of those positions will be eliminated.

In January, 110 employees at Payless in Topeka were laid off. Last month, a report from the Kansas City Star indicated the company was considering closing around 1,000 stores.
