Manhattan's Northview Pool to open Monday

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) — Manhattan officials say Northview Pool will reopen Monday afternoon.

They said the pool will be open for its normal operating hours, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If anything changes, the City says they will post the information on their Facebook page and via its text messaging system.

They also remind anyone heading out for a dip Manhattan will be under an excessive heat watch from 1 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m.

City officials say chlorine controllers at the pool malfunctioned last Wednesday causing several lifeguards to suffer chlorine exposure symptoms.

All eight including two walk-in patients were taken to Via Christi hospital to be checked.

Manhattan officials say the controllers first had trouble earlier this month following a lighting strike. Back-up equipment was used to keep the pool operating until new parts arrived.

Officials say their investigation has determined that a routine maintenance procedure on pump filters took longer than normal which contributed to the concentrated build-up of the chemicals. Chemical levels are monitored by an automated system and through manual checks.
